CEC ArtsLink, an international arts organization, is sending Public Art Curator, Kendal Henry and Artist, Luisa Caldwell to the City of Krasnoyarsk, Russia. Kendal and Luisa will conduct workshops and lectures with students and young artists at the Krasnoyarsk Museum Centre and at local schools. These workshops and conversations will culminate into collaborative public art project(s) which will be unveiled on June 13, as part of the City Day celebrations. This Blog documents their journey.

CEC ARTSLINK is an international arts organization. Our programs encourage and support exchange of artists and cultural managers between the United States and Eastern and Central Europe, Russia, Central Asia and the Caucasus. We believe that the arts are a society’s most deliberate and complex means of communication, and that artists and arts administrators can help nations overcome long histories of reciprocal distrust, insularity and conflict.

ABOUT KRASNOYARSK
Krasnoyarsk (Russian: Красноя рск) is the administrative center of Krasnoyarsk Krai of Russia, and the third largest city in Siberia. Krasnoyarsk lies on the Yenisei River and is an important junction on the Trans-Siberian Railway. The city is served by Krasnoyarsk Yemelyanovo Airport. During the Cold War it was home to Krasnoyarsk Northeast air base, which has been turned into apartment blocks since then. Population: 909,341 (2002 census); 912,629 (1989 census).

ArtsLink Awards: Austin Film Society (TX) Education Director Christian Raymond and Romanian filmmaker Sergiu Lupse to conduct on an intensive digital filmmaking workshop with disadvantaged youths and adults at the Veritas Foundation in Sighisoara, Romania.
June 19-29, 2009
VisArt: U.S. artist Michael Rakowitz and curator Mark Coetzee to conduct workshops on contemporary art with young artists from Russia and Finland at a pilot program in collaboration with Smolny Institute (St. Petersburg), Bard College (New York), and KUVA (Finnish Art Academy, Helsinki).
